Mark Hunt Strength and Conditioning Training

Postby Brad_Morris on Sun Jun 01, 2008 3:21 pm

I spoke with Gary Goodridge on facebook last night (I hope it was the real GG and not an imposter), I sent him a link to some of the training I like doing in preparation for my fights. He saw a short Clip of Mark Hunt doing some strength and conditioning training with me prior to Marks recent K1 fight and Gary asked me to post it in this forum. So here it is.

To answer some questions straight away the reason Mark is training like this is to help with general physical preparedness, this training was done on top of regular sparring and conditioning sessions. The chain yoke serves a few purposes. The heavy weight of the movement makes sure you are getting a good full body workout. But the dynamic nature of the Chains means that you have to concentrate on keeping your core tight. Every fighter needs a strong core. The run with the vest is a tough drill, 500m dragging the tyre (tire) and wearing the vest, followed by another 900m run (1.4km run total), followed by a ute push at the end. The whole drill takes about 25 minutes.
